Does it sound familiar when you have just finished a book and you feel like telling everybody about it? Throughout 2024 I felt like that and honestly, it has been one of the most wonderful reading years I can remember. Since I am a fast reader, I got to explore some of the best books I came across that put my understanding of what a good read is completely sideways.

Frankly speaking, I thought creating this list of the best books of 2024 would be an easy task. Unfortunately, I was really mistaken. This year has been tremendously full of amazing releases that cover all kinds of genres. Whether it was the fantasy novels that took me to completely alien worlds or the cookbooks that changed my adventure in the kitchen, 2024 really showed that it has provided special treatment to all readers.

Hearing that I will share with you the two reasons I think 2024 has been an extraordinary year for literature before reading my personal favorites is a must. Publishing companies seem to have really adopted a multi-voice narrative and avant-garde storytelling models. We have observed brands’ distinctive narrative arc as well as the appearance of new authors who are reading the baby of their mothers and fathers differently and thus changing everything we think we know about their genres.

The highlight, therefore, is the authors at the moment who are creatively dealing with the socioeconomic issues we are experiencing while still bringing us the escapism we all are after. Utilizing allegorical worlds that resonate with our struggles, such as cookbooks, which during divisive times bring people together, the best books of 2024 have been both topical and timeless.

I should start with the most unbelievable book I have read this year which is Faebound by Saara El-Arifi. I found it randomly during one of my weekend trips to the bookstore and I am so thankful I did. Here is something that you should read, El-Arifi has built a real fantasy universe where I can tell you the fairies are not just beautiful girls with wings.

What sets Faebound apart from other fantasy novels is El-Arifi’s original approach to fae mythology. Instead of reusing the same worn-out tropes as other authors, she manufactures a space that is both coven and yet totally distinct with a spare design aesthetic. The magic system is intricate but not complex to follow and the characters oh the characters! As in all the creatures who matter they live the whole life and I was imagining them for a long time after the book was over.

Overall the way the plot is driven by the political machination thread runs as an irresistible necessity the top to the bottom tension in the story and the romance is infused in the tale so artfully and naturally that it makes me wish to see more kind of that. If the way you want to deal with your intelligence is that you have to read fantasy which is not a value added then don’t forget to consider Faebound.

I want to introduce you to the innovative narrative of James by Percival Everett, the book that literally put me into a standstill. The author has narrated the end of the story through the eyes of new experiences and new ideas, by starting with retelling Mark Twain’s classic book in a completely different way. This topsy-turvy view of literature and history compels us to consider certain uncomfortable truths about them.

Reading James was like the unbelievable revelation of a long forgotten truth of history. Us having been misled for so long and now feeling the weight of the responsibility of all the people that have been left out to suffer definitely equals the truth. The style of Everett not only creates beautiful phrases that suggest exquisite imagining but also gives us sorely needed historical perspective. The exceptional work of art is that he gives the agency and voice to a side character, who was first presented as a supporting one, unthinkable.

What impressed me the most about this book is how it managed to be both a standalone masterpiece and a brilliant commentary on the original work. You don’t need to have read The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn recently to appreciate James, but if you have, you’ll find yourself seeing Twain’s work in an entirely new light.

Kristin Hannah has shown her mastery of making historical events immediate, personal, and emotional, and The Women is yet another proof. A visit to Vietnam was the last thing I expected and the last thing I was prepared for as I am interested in the issues of this book, which is about Vietnam War women.

Not only is Hannah’s research incredibly meticulous, but what sets the book apart is how she breathes life into these women. She doesn’t merely recount their life journeys; she Ohnos them, becomes part of their adventure, and leads the reader through the process of feeling every experience. The change that the main character undergoes throughout the story is both breathtaking and uplifting, and Hannah who does not choose the easy road in her manifestations, shows the long-term consequences of trauma and the power it takes to be whole again.

What fascinates me about The Women is its filling of the gap in our historical story. These are the tales that must have been told and Hannah tells them with courtesy and dignity. Choose this book as your addition to the bookshelf, for it is a historical fiction work that will resonate with you long after your reach the last page.

The place to park the media responsibilities – who would think that Cool Food, with both Thomas Kostigen and Robert Downey Jr. as authors, would come to the table as one of the most interesting books on environmental eating? The book have taken a huge turn on my mind regarding the kind of food I dislike and also managed to influence my dietary habits.

It is obvious that the book stays away from lecturing or shaming the readers. Besides, Downey Jr. and Kostigen work on the reader’s interest and wallets on humor that is palpable before and after the eating of the food. Thus, they put into practice the tips and recipes that they alone have tried out creating a trusted environment for both.

The volume masterfully balances between being informative and being entertaining. Downey Jr.’s character is a ray of sunshine that lights up the pages, tackling environmental issues in an approachable way. Therefore, if you have ever thought about making small changes in your meal planning but have felt overwhelmed, Cool Food will serve you as a manageable road map, which you can discuss on a fun and friendly tone.

Another new thing that I learned and which caught my notice this time is that a cookbook adores people. Open Wide: A Cookbook for Friends by Benny Blanco and Jess Damuck not only is a cookbook but a recipe for a good time connecting through cooking with people we care about.

Blanco’s notion of cooking is openly unpretentious and original. The recipes that he has come up with to be entertaining and shareable are prototype for your dinner parties where you would like to hang out more with your guests without the need to be cooking alone all night. I sincerely value the fact that he is so disengaged with the exactness of instruction that it is absolutely fine for you to change things around and make it yours.

To underline the magic of this book, the photography is stunning and the recipes actually work. I have cooked many of them with friends, and all of the recipes were perfect. If you are someone who loves hosting yet becomes anxious about the cooking aspect, this book will provide you with an entire new paradigm about hosting.

What distinguishes these books as the best books of 2024 are not simply their excellence but the collective representation of diversity and innovation by the publishing industry this year. The imaginative world building in El-Arifi’s case vs. the bold literary reimagining articulated in Everett’s case, the emotional historical narrative of Hannah as well as the practical wisdom present in the two food books—these titles are examples of the fantastic range of voices and viewpoints that made 2024 a great year for readers.

Each of these books offers different benefits but they all have one thing in common: they respect the readers’ intelligence and at the same time provide the entertainment and insight we look for. Whether you are looking for a fantasy, education, or inspiration, you will find it in those pages.

Year after year, I have been thinking of this life-changing reading journey where authors find a model to be both ephemeral and eternal. The best books of 2024 didn’t just amuse me; they’ve challenged my assumptions, expanded my worldview, and reminded me why I fell in love with reading in the first place.

In the case of a thirst for new titles in the library of your home, the right choice will not be wrong with any of the above-mentioned series. Every single book has gone through the tough new-age filter to get there, and I just know that they will always be remembered and loved among readers. You will have no regrets; your future self will applaud your wisdom if you read these wonderful books.
