Being a true bookworm, I always find myself spending long hours listening to audiobooks more than I do reading them. To be honest, the feeling is just unbelievably unique when the story is told by an absolutely fantastic narrator. I mean, one would just feel as if there is a storyteller beside him/her. If you have ever experienced the problem of not being able to read a book because you are short on time, audiobooks are the answer.

In this article, I will introduce some of the amazing audiobooks in 2025, which I found and really liked. These suggestions are not just entertaining; they are also escapist, emotional, and ideal for anyone who is willing to read at times like commuting, cooking, or just chilling out.

I will not lie: I used to be a physical book reader. The feeling of having a book in your hands and turning pages is something I think is really satisfying. I still do that, but I have not as much time as before. Work, errands, and other commitments left me with barely any time to read.

Then, I found audiobooks, which were so helpful. Initially, I was somewhat doubtful. How could I listen to the story in the same way I read it? But after I have tried out a couple of books, I was completely lured in. Listening gives me the chance to do two things at once without missing anything key from the storyline, and a good reader can bring out the kind of emotion and richness which perhaps sometimes the text would not have differed from if read normally.

I will kick off the list by mentioning the audiobook that literally stole my heart for the year: The Outlaw Noble Salt by Amy Harmon. The first sentence caught my attention, and soon I became part of a beautifully constructed world of adventures, difficult characters, and heartrending times.

Primarily, my preference for this audiobook derives from its performance aspect. Harmon has a knack for creative storytelling that can be easily noticed through listening. The narrator’s interpretation is excellent; she captures even the slightest differences in the voices of the characters and infuses life into the story. I particularly liked listening during my morning walks, and before I realized it, the entire audiobook was finished within days.

If you enjoy action-filled stories that delve into emotional issues with dynamic characters, then this is simply one of the best audiobooks in 2025. Not to mention, it’s a great choice for both the fans of Harmon and the newcomers.

The second title in my list is Listen for the Lie by Amy Tintera. I must say it was a surprise to me. Although I was expecting a suspenseful read, it turned out to be a master class in tension and character development.

Tintera has a special talent for producing the feeling of actually living in the heart of the story. The suspense was so well built that I frequently had to take a break just to recover my breath—or to warn my dog not to walk on a twist! The voice of the audiobook narrator is an additional cracker that makes it nearly impossible to stop listening.

One thing I really found interesting was how Tintera built her characters. The feeling that they are real and flawed but at the same time relatable is exactly what I long for when I read my favorite audiobooks. So, if you appreciate suspenseful, emotion-filled stories, I highly recommend it.

I have come across many audiobooks in the previous year and I have found that a truly excellent audiobook entails a few components:

  1. Catching narration: A really good narrator is the one who can either make a book good or bad. I am a bit biased toward narrators who dramatize a character’s manner of speaking, modulate their tone accordingly, and add the element of emotion.
  2. The story should be well-structured: The narrative mustn’t just sound awkward or inconsistent. Some audiobooks sound hurried or too slow, but the really good ones make you feel engaged from the beginning until the end.
  3. Emotional impact: The stories that I cannot forget are those which have brought me very strong feelings—either laughter, sadness, or simply astonishment.

Both The Outlaw Noble Salt and Listen for the Lie managed to achieve all these points successfully; therefore, they made their way to my list of the best audiobooks this year.
